2017 OFSAA Cross Country Championships

The Mississauga Olympians would like to congratulate Sandra Guga for qualifying for the 2017 OFSAA Cross Country Championships. Sandra competing as a first year senior this year, ran a time of 26:33.9 for her 6km race, finishing 79th overall in a field of 271 competitors. Way to go Sandra! Our indoor season training has begun. The schedule will be as follows:

Fall Season – 2017

The Mississauga Olympians Fall Season will begin at 6:30p on Tuesday September 19th 2017 at Loyola Catholic Secondary School. At this time we are accepting new registrations for children age 5-18 and of course welcoming back all past participants.

MO Summer Camp

Want to learn to Run, Jump Throw? Mississauga Olympians is offering a Summer Camp this year to help youth ages 7-14 with skill development guided by The Long Term Athletic Development framework (LTAD). The camp will consist of specific track and field events in the morning session. The afternoons will consist of playing various team sports and activities, arts and crafts , cooperative games and other team-building games and activities, that complement morning activities. Every child should bring lunch, snacks and a reusable water bottle to camp each day, Please respect that we are a “Nut Aware Environment”.

Some of the track events will include:

* Middle Distance Racing: 400/800 meters
* Longer Distances and Cross Country Running
* Sprints: 60/80/100/200
* Long Jump
* Relays
* Throws

Inclement Weather
In case of bad weather, we will move to shelter in a designated area until it is suitable to restart activities. On rainy days, each child should bring a towel, change of clothing and a rain jacket to camp.

MO Athletes at OFSSA

OFSSA; the largest High School track and field event in Canada and 3rd largest in North America behind Texas and California. This year MO was well represented by 4 of our very talented ladies, Sandra Guga, Titilayomi Sijuade, Tunlano Oladipo & Tia Luke. Sandra competed in the Junior girls 1500m and finished 18th overall. Titi and Tunlano helped power the Midget girls 4x100m relay team of Loyola to a silver medal. Tia competed in the Junior girls High Jump and finished 11th overall. It is a very big achievement to make it to OFSSA and these ladies were very competitive in their respective events.

Congratulations to you all for working hard and attending the big show. Keep pushing for even bigger achievements.

MTA Indoor Championship – Congratulations Athletes

Day 1 of the Minor Track Association Indoor Championship lived up to it’s anticipation highlighted by the performance of the Mississauga Olympians Track and Field Senior Boys 4x200m relay team at the Toronto Track and Field Centre. The 4 speedsters, Diarra-James Powell-Burgess, David Hurst Jr., Jalon Rose and Jadon Rose, powered their way to a 1st place finish while setting a new record. The previous record (1:36.90s) set in 2009 was ousted by the Olympians boys with a blistering time of 1:36.79s. The foursome continued their success throughout the day. Twins Jadon and Jalon Rose finished 1 and 2 in the Senior Boys 60m final with times of 7.36s and 7.37s respectively while David Hurst Jr. and Diarra-James Powell-Burgess finished 1 and 2 in the Senior Boys 400m with times of 56.26s and 56.56s respectively. Day 2 was equally as exciting with more exhilarating performances starting with the Senior Girls 800m where Olympians athlete Nicole McKenzie ran to a 1st place finish and personal best of 2:21.71s.

There were many other outstanding performances by Mississauga Olympians athletes throughout the weekend.

Congratulations to all athletes for their hard work. This wraps up the indoor season for the Mississauga Olympians Track and Field Association. We will continue competition for the outdoor season starting in May with many local meets in the GTA as well as travelling to the US for international meets.
