MTA Indoor Championship – Congratulations Athletes

Day 1 of the Minor Track Association Indoor Championship lived up to it’s anticipation highlighted by the performance of the Mississauga Olympians Track and Field Senior Boys 4x200m relay team at the Toronto Track and Field Centre. The 4 speedsters, Diarra-James Powell-Burgess, David Hurst Jr., Jalon Rose and Jadon Rose, powered their way to a 1st place finish while setting a new record. The previous record (1:36.90s) set in 2009 was ousted by the Olympians boys with a blistering time of 1:36.79s. The foursome continued their success throughout the day. Twins Jadon and Jalon Rose finished 1 and 2 in the Senior Boys 60m final with times of 7.36s and 7.37s respectively while David Hurst Jr. and Diarra-James Powell-Burgess finished 1 and 2 in the Senior Boys 400m with times of 56.26s and 56.56s respectively. Day 2 was equally as exciting with more exhilarating performances starting with the Senior Girls 800m where Olympians athlete Nicole McKenzie ran to a 1st place finish and personal best of 2:21.71s.

There were many other outstanding performances by Mississauga Olympians athletes throughout the weekend.

Day 2 Highlights: Tyke Girls 200m Naomi Shillingford – 30.33s – 2nd place Senior Girls High Jump Jaden Mullings – 1.60m – 1st place Senior Girls 1600M Sprint Medley Relay Shiloh Boswell, Shai Cuffy, Naomi Layne, Nicole McKenzie – 4:27.82s – 1st place Tyke Boys 200m DJ Luke – 31.17s – 3rd place Atom Boys 200m Isaiah Luke – 26.34s – 1st place Atom Boys 1600M Sprint Medley Relay Darrius Mullings, Isaiah Luke, Connor-Jay Cassells-Watson, Kynu Samuels – 4:42.30s – 1st place Senior Boys 200m Jalon Rose – 23.40s – 1st place Jadon Rose – 23.76s – 2nd place David Hurst Jr. – 23.97s – 3rd place

Congratulations to all athletes for their hard work. This wraps up the indoor season for the Mississauga Olympians Track and Field Association. We will continue competition for the outdoor season starting in May with many local meets in the GTA as well as travelling to the US for international meets.

Please be advised that due to inclement weather, practice at York has been cancelled. Practice at York will resume Wednesday at 6:30pm.

Congratulations Naomi Layne

We would like to wish congratulations to Naomi Layne for finishing 3rd and setting a personal best in the Bantam Girls 300m at the Athletics Ontario BMJ Championship. Naomi ran 43.07s to better her previous time of 43.25s. Congratulations Naomi! Keep up the hard work!

Congratulations to the MO Athletes of Excellence

On February 25th, the Minor Track Association held it’s annual Rick Westwood Athlete of Excellence Banquet. MO was well represented and our athletes brought home an abundance of hardware. Congratulations to the following athletes for coming to the track with Purpose, for striving for Progression and for Persevering to be a better you.

Thank You to all Volunteers

We would like to take the time to recognize and thank all volunteers for their hard work on Feb. 18th at the Mississauga Olympians Indoor Meet. Although we were hit with many delays beyond our control, you all stuck it out for the entire day. This meet had over 560 athletes from 46 clubs; one of the largest meets this year. Thank you for making this day possible!
