Summer Recap

The summer season ended with a bang at the recent Outdoor Provincial Championships at York University. It was a season to remember and likely the most successful one in the ten year history of the club.

None of this would have been possible without the hard work from our athletes and the many sacrifices from the parents and coaching staff.

For that, we thank you for making our club, the great family that it is.

There were so many highlights from this past season that it would be an incredible task to include every single accomplishment.

Since the High School Championships, our junior athletes had been busy competing at Elementary School Championships throughout the GTA.

A special shout out went out to our very own; Kynu Samuel. Kynu won the 800 meters at the Toronto District championships and set a City Record for grade four boys.

The club then travelled south of the border to Ohio and Pennsylvania and brought home an impressive collection of medals and trophies. From that point, the club competed well at various local meets in preparation for the Provincial Championships.

This past July 23-24th 2016, our club finished third overall in the team standings at the Provincial Championships with our athletes bringing home 9 gold medals, 6 silver and 5 bronze. In doing so, we had outstanding performances from Cahjay Warwick, Naomi Layne and Jasiah Swaby.

These athletes were double gold medallists in their respective age categories.

Cahjay won the Peewee Boys 100 meters and long jump, Naomi won the Atom Girls 200 and 400 meters and Jasiah swept the Senior Girls 100 and 200 meters.

Nicole McKenzie and David Hurst both captured gold medals in their respective 400 meter events and the Tyke girls sprint medley relay team also brought home the gold.

Some of our athletes went one step further and set provincial records as well:
• “Superman” Cahjay Warwick flew to a provincial record in the Peewee Boys long jump.
• Jadon Rose set a Provincial Record for first year Senior Boys in the 100 meters and
• Our Senior Girls and Boys broke both provincial records in their respective Sprint Medley Relays.

We are proud of all of our athlete’s accomplishments but please remember…

“The important thing in life is not victory but combat; it is not to have been defeated but to have fought well.” – Pierre de Coubertin

Enjoy the rest of your summer holidays and we will see you soon.

MO Athletes Shine at OFSAA

This past weekend; Habiba Iman, Nyah Layne and Sabree Thomas represented their respective schools at the Ontario High School Track Championships (OFSAA) during June 2nd,3rd and 4th 2016.

These girls survived a three week elimination process to earn the right to compete amongst the top high school athletes in Ontario (If not Canada) at Alumni Field in Windsor Ontario.
These girls proudly represented their school and club with lots of heart.

Habiba finished 18th overall in the competitive Midget Girls 400 meters, Nyah finished fourth overall in probably the quickest Midget Girls 80 meter hurdles race in OFSAA history and Sabree also finished fourth overall in a hotly contested Junior Girls 100 meters.
Competing at OFSAA is not an easy task and something that not everyone is afforded the opportunity to experience. For that, we give our girls a big shout out and thank them for making us proud.

We also wish our elementary school athletes the best of luck as they prepare for the City Champs.

Once again, the club represented and compiled an impressive collection of hardware. Newcomer David Hurst Jr. collected silver medals in the Bantam Boys 150 meters and 300 meters. Naomi Layne was also a double silver medallist in the Atom Girls 150 meters and 300 meters. This past weekend saw the 2015 High School track season finish with a bang!

Hundreds of athletes from across the province competed for gold at Varsity Stadium in Toronto.

In her Ofssa debut, Sabree Thomas finished a very respectable sixth place in the 100 meters and tenth overall in the 200 meters.

Andy Nguyen and Meagan Rodrigues failed to advance to the finals in their respective events.
